The design of this multi-gemstone polki and gold necklace for women draws inspiration from across the subcontinent, with hints of Indian Deccan in the top bar dressed in polki/uncut diamond-studded rosettes using the traditional jadai technique; the nephrite unit inlaid with colorful stones in a bird motif; and the overall style of the necklace from the land of the kings.
Two gem-set parrots sit on either side of the nephrite unit, with inverted diamond-encrusted chaand units suspended from them. The necklace also showcases the finesse of chakkar piraai—the craft of bordering a unit with a line of seed pearls or beads.
The parrot, as the vahana (mount) of Kamadeva, son of Vishnu and Lakshmi, is considered to be the god of human love, desire, passion, and fertility. It is also a symbol of knowledge and learning. Read Less
